Nestled in the northwest corner of Iowa, our farm sits on a gorgeous twenty-acre tract in Buena Vista County surrounded by groves of trees and fertile cropland. A serene river winds through the property with an abundance of wildlife always nearby. We are located in the heart of farm country between Sioux City and Fort Dodge, just north of Highway 20.
The adventure started with an impromptu purchase of a pair of Nubian dairy goats and a few chickens. A herd expansion was inevitable after realizing how addicting they can be! However, the inevitable happened and after a few predator attacks and losses, we began to acknowledge the need for property and livestock protection.
Our first Anatolian Shepherd Livestock Guardian Dog (LGD) came to live with us in February of 2014. We are now up to the "Dream Team" of five working Anatolians. This quintet has kept all of our livestock safe from our primary Iowan predators: opposums, snakes, raccoons, birds of prey, coyotes, bobcats, and stray dogs.
Currently, Ewawki River is home to a small breeding herd of Nubian dairy goats registered with the American Dairy Goat Association, a few breeding pens of rare-breed chickens, and our AKC Anatolian Shepherds that protect our farm and livestock in beautiful Iowa corn country.
